Benjamin
Bowman Violin
Born in Illinois and raised in Manitoba (and now
a dual citizen), Benjamin Bowman began playing the
violin on his fifth birthday. Immediately engaged
by music, he was playing in a University orchestra
by age 8, and won his first national competition (CMC)
at age 11. Other prizes since then include the Grand
Prize at the Kiwanis National Festival, a YTV National
Achievement Award, and a Young Canadian Musicians
Award. Benjamin received his Bachelor in Music degree
from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia
in 2002, before moving to Toronto. He is currently
the associate concertmaster of the Canadian Opera
Company, and performs as guest concertmaster with
the Miami and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestras. Also
very active as a chamber musician and soloist, Benjamin
has played throughout North America and Europe, and
with fine local chamber series including Art of Time,
Via Salzburg, Amici, ARC (Artists of the Royal Conservatory),
Continuum, and Soundstreams. Benjamin also teaches,
improvises and composes classical and electronic music.
This season’s projects include tours to eastern
and western Europe, and Asia, and a recording with
Amici. In his spare time, Benjamin enjoys busking
and attempting visual art.
