Bryars Arranger
Gavin Bryars, born in 1943, studied philosophy but
became jazz bassist and a pioneer of free improvisation.
Early pieces The Sinking of the Titanic and Jesus’
Blood Never Failed Me Yet achieved great popular success.
Works include three operas, a large body of chamber
music, several concertos and much vocal music (Hilliard
Ensemble, Trio Mediaeval, Red Byrd, Latvian Radio
Choir, Estonian National Male Choir). Collaborated
widely with artists (Juan Muñoz, Bruce McLean,
James Hugonin), architects (Will Alsop, Alvar Aalto
Academy), choreographers (William Forsythe, Merce
Cunningham, Edouard Lock), stage directors (Robert
Wilson, Atom Egoyan, Cathie Boyd), many CD recordings,
including own GB Records.
