Joseph
Phillips Bass
A Toronto native, Joe Phillips studied double-bass
with the renowned virtuoso Joel Quarrington. Joe is
currently principal bassist of Orchestra London Canada
and of Mayumi Seiler’s Via Salzburg Chamber
Orchestra. He has also held principal positions with
the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and with Sinfonia
Toronto.
An avid performer of many styles of music, Joe has
worked with performers such as Patricia O’Callaghan,
the Art of Time Ensemble, Andrew Downing’s Arts
and Letters Ensemble, Gregory Hoskins, Jenny Whiteley
and Claire Jenkins avec Band, and has recorded Juno
nominated albums with Sarah Slean, The Wailin’
Jennys, the Pierre Schryer Band and Joey Wright.
As an orchestral freelancer he has played with the
National Arts Centre Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra,
Canadian Opera Company, Orchestre Symphonique de Québec,
Les Violons du Roy and Tafelmusik.
Joe has written orchestral arrangements for songwriter
Ian Tamblin and for a recently released album by blues
diva Rita Chiarelli with the Thunder Bay Symphony
Orchestra.
He currently lives in London with his partner and
their two children.
