Kevin
Hearn Singer
Best known as a skilled multi-instrumentalist in
platinum-selling international pop heroes Barenaked
Ladies, Hearn has long pursued a parallel solo career
path. As a solo artist, Kevin Hearn has operated underneath
the commercial radar, but has earned a loyal international
following with his highly idiosyncratic yet tuneful
sound.
Recently Kevin has toured as a member of Lou Reed's
band. He has also toured as pianist/vocalist with
Laurie Anderson. He has appeared as a musical guest
on a number of recordings including the latest offerings
from Broken Social Scene, The Tragically Hip, Ron
Sexsmith and Garth Hudson.
Havana Music is the follow-up to the much-lauded release
The Miracle Mile, which has been deftly described
as “The Flaming Lips school of existential-crisis
management, both in the celestial synth/symphonic
arrangements and in the curious examination of the
precarious balance between science and faith”
(Eye Weekly). With The Miracle Mile, Kevin Hearn found
critical acclaim and emotional pathos with his exploration
of personal struggle with leukemia and its treatment.
The musical empathy within Thinbuckle (Hearn, bassist
Chris Gartner and drummer Bob Scott first played together
back in the late ‘80s, in offbeat rock band
Look People) is clearly audible. So too is Hearn’s
longtime creative collaboration with co-producer Michael
Phllip Wojewoda, who has worked extensively with Barenaked
Ladies and produced both Kevin’s solo debut,
Mothball Mint, and H-Wing.
