Marsalis & Burashko
May 23-24, 2014
harbourfront centre theatre, toronto
Musical titan Branford Marsalis was introduced to the Toronto classical music community in 2011, performing works by Glazunov and Schulhoff with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Marsalis returned to Toronto for his debut recital with pianist and Art of Time Artistic Director Andrew Burashko. While Marsalis is best known for his groundbreaking work with his own Branford Marsalis Quartet, as well as stints with Sting, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, he has spent much of the recent past exploring his love of classical music in performances with symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles the world over. In this debut collaboration, Marsalis and Burashko selected repertoire from a variety of sources including contemporary works for saxophone and piano, art song, arias and perhaps a few surprises.
